The British Society for Genetic Medicine provides a forum for professionals involved in genetics and genomics as a clinical service and research.

As an umbrella organisation, our membership includes a wide spectrum of clinical, laboratory and research disciplines, not only in specialist genetic services but throughout the health professions.

The Joint Committee on Genomics in Medicine

The Joint Committee on Genomics in Medicine is a tripartite committee of the BSGM, RCPath and RCP, with representation from other professional bodies and patient organisations. It provides a unified forum to co-ordinate activities across a wide spectrum of organisations, particularly to promote and maintain the highest standards of practice in clinical and laboratory applications of genetics in medicine and to co-ordinate advice on service issues and workforce planning.

The NHS Genomics Education Programme (GEP) is delighted to launch a new series of horizon-scanning expert webinars, LinkAGE (Linking Academia with Genomics Education), this January. These webinars will feature expert perspectives on exciting ‘bench-to-bedside’ projects likely to impact on clinical practice in the not-too-distant future. The first webinar in the series – an introduction to gene directed therapies – will be presented by renowned expert Dr James Patterson on Tuesday 24th January at 5pm. The session will cover the following themes: • Introduction to gene directed therapy modalities and strategies. • The use of genetic approaches for ex vivo engineering of therapeutics. • How do we deliver gene medicines in vivo? • Novel in vivo gene directed therapeutics for complex disease. • Discussion of near-term advancement and an overview of key challenges facing next generation approaches.
