The British Society for Genetic Medicine provides a forum for professionals involved in genetics and genomics as a clinical service and research.

As an umbrella organisation, our membership includes a wide spectrum of clinical, laboratory and research disciplines, not only in specialist genetic services but throughout the health professions.

The Joint Committee on Genomics in Medicine

The Joint Committee on Genomics in Medicine is a tripartite committee of the BSGM, RCPath and RCP, with representation from other professional bodies and patient organisations. It provides a unified forum to co-ordinate activities across a wide spectrum of organisations, particularly to promote and maintain the highest standards of practice in clinical and laboratory applications of genetics in medicine and to co-ordinate advice on service issues and workforce planning.

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) for Genomic Professionals 2025 3 – 4 February | Online course “The best EDI course I have ever attended” – 2024 course delegate We’re excited to once again offer this popular course addressing key challenges in genomic medicine, focusing on diversity, equity, and inclusion (EDI) in genetic services. The course highlights inequalities in access to genetic services, workforce diversity, and the experiences of different minoritised, protected and cultural groups in the UK. Through action learning sets, participants will explore culturally competent care, learn to develop outcome-focused EDI strategies, and collaborate on practical solutions to promote equity in genomic services. Outcomes include: • Improved confidence in EDI change management • Access to EDI resources and literature • Skills for creating practical, achievable EDI approaches This course is ideal for healthcare professionals in clinical genomics, including medical, nursing, midwifery, and scientific roles.
