A BSGM 'Lunch and Learn' online session, bringing together members from across the Society to learn and discuss topics of interest to all.

Dr Veline L'Esperance will give a talk titled 'Breaking barriers for better health: Reducing Ethnic Health Inequalities in Genomic, Genetics and Precision Medicine', which will provide an overview of the work that the NHS Race and Health Observatory undertakes in identifying and tackling ethnic health inequalities across the NHS. This talk will focus on genomics and precision medicine, highlighting the findings and recommendations of our recently published report, Ethnic inequities in genomics and precision medicine review report.

Dr Veline L'Esperance is an academic GP and the primary care lead for a Wellcome Trust funded precision medicine study to understand and develop better blood tests to diagnose type 2 diabetes, making them more accurate for groups including ethnic minorities and the elderly. She serves as a senior clinical advisor to the NHS Race and Health Observatory in the area of genomics and precision medicine, overseeing projects related to Familial Hypercholesterolemia, tackling inequalities within the Genomics Medicine Service and dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase genetic testing. She is also a member of the NICE Technology Appraisal Committee, National Genomics Board and the NHS Genomics Ethics, Equity and Legal Advisory Group.

All sessions will be recorded and available via the BSGM website for members unable to attend live.

If you are unable to attend and have any questions you would like to submit in advance please send them to Demetra Georgiou

We aim for this initiative to be genuinely useful to members and serve as a point of collegial conversation across professions and geographies; topics will be selected that are of broad interest and feedback is welcome as we develop the initiative.
