As part of its role as a charitable organisation, the British Society for Genetic Medicine offers support with travel costs for members.
Applicants must have an active membership at the time of application; must have been a member of the Society for more than one year and not have received a full travel award (GBP500) or up to two smaller awards adding up to GBP500 in any 3 year period.
Maximum awards are currently £350 UK/European travel and £500 for intercontinental travel, at the discretion of the panel.
Priority is given to presenters of accepted abstracts at meetings, individuals returning to practice after a break in service (over 6 months), early careers applicants (under 3 years post graduation - not in a sponsored training programme that includes funding provision for conference attendance) and individuals facing financial hardship. This award can also be used to cover expenses for attendance at significant meetings where members have been asked to represent our specialty or BSGM specifically, such as National strategy meetings, etc.
Applications should be received 2 calendar months prior to event/conference of interest at the very latest. Our panel will review and provide their response 6 weeks prior to event.
Please note that, although the BSGM endeavours to ensure that travel awards are awarded to as many applicants as possible, there will be occasions where applications are unsuccessful.
Every year, a proportion of awards will be given to affiliate members.
